Experience Nipomo Pres
What to Expect when you come to Nipomo Presbyterian
We so hope that you will join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Worship is the heart and soul of our ministry. Each service is designed to help the worshipper experience the profound love of God and to learn more about what it means to live ruled by that Love. Our services build on the beauty of historic Reformed worship with a relaxed and joyful feel. Worship is focused on the Scriptures with preaching, prayers and music all working together to provide an opportunity for a deep and personal encounter with Christ. Our pastor shares a time with children in each service and the children then go to Sunday School classes for the remainder of worship. Our worship service generally lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Music for our services draws on the finest of both traditional and contemporary hymns. On the first Sunday of each month we share the sacrament of the Lord's Supper together. All believers are welcome to share in this sacrament. On the second Sunday of each month, we worship using more contemporary music followed by a fellowship brunch in Fox Hall. Once a month we offer a special evening vespers service with difference emphases and musical styles.
Parking is available on the south and west sides of Fox Hall as well as on the north side of the Sanctuary. Our nursery is located in the portable classroom area between the Sanctuary and Fox Hall.
Caring for Your Children
We consider it an honor and a privilege to serve your children at NCPC. Our deepest desire to to help you to raise your children to love and serve the Lord. Your child's safety is of utmost concern to us. When you bring your child to our nursery or Sunday School you will be asked to register him/her and give us some basic information, such as allergies, etc., that will help us care for her/him while you are enjoying worship. You child will never be unattended and will not be released to anyone but you. For more information about our ministry with children, see our ministries page.
Fellowship Time
Each week after worship, plan to stay a few minutes for refreshments and fellowship in Fox Hall. This time is an extension of our worship as we connect with one another and get to know each other better. Community is very important to us. It is even a part of our name. We believe that we serve Christ in knowing and loving one another. This time after worship is a great way to get connected.
Presby..what?
NCPC is a part of the historic Presbyterian Church USA. We are a protestant church that traces its reformed roots to the 16th century Protestant Reformation in Europe. We are connected to other PCUSA and Reformed congregations around the world and have a long history of mission work both in the US and abroad. Each congregation sets its own priorities and mission. To learn more about the PCUSA, go to pcusa.org. A snapshot of our beliefs is found in A Brief Statement of Faith which is a part of our denomination's constitution. Our pastor, Eugenia Gamble, was one of the author's of this statement.
A copy of our church newsletter The Vision also appears on this site. Reading it will give you a glimpse of who we are as well.
Join a Small Group
In addition to Ministry Groups (see ministry page), we offer a variety of small group options to suit every personality.
Eight to Eat
These groups of eight meet monthly for dinner and fellowship in members homes or in a restaurant. These are strictly fellowship and relationship building groups. Groups are open to members and non-members.
Thursday Prayer and Communion Group
This group meets at 9:00 a.m. each Thursday for a time of study led by the pastor followed by time of prayer and sharing of the Lord's Supper. This group is open to all.
One Anothering Groups
This is a new small group option coming to our church in the spring of 2010. These small groups of 8-12 persons meet weekly for 11 weeks and study the book One Anothering by Richard Meyer. The book, through light Bible study of selected 'one anothering' passages (care for one another, pray for one another, etc.) and structured sharing, leads people to form a deeply satisfying small group of support and genuine caring.
Presbyterian Men's Fellowship
This group meets on the first Monday of each month for dinner, fellowship and service.
Presbyterian Women
This group meets the fourth Thursday of the month for luncheon, fellowship and mission service. PW is exploring the establishment of small women's circles for fellowship and study beginning in Spring 2010.

Steps to Growth
Share in Fellowship
Being a part of a community of people who strive to put Christ first in our lives, who desire strong and sustaining relationships and who are intent on making a difference in the world is a key aspect of our identity at NCPC.
In addition to our time of fellowship after worship on Sundays, we plan a number of fun activities to help us grow in our relationships and commitment.
Second Sunday Brunch.
The Brunch Bunch Team, plans a scrumptious themed brunch for us to share as a church family each second Sunday of the month. Tickets are sold up through the first Sunday of the month. Suggested ticket price is $7 per person. If that is too much, then just pay what you can. Children under 10 eat free. Proceeds cover the cost of food with any funds remaining going into the general mission budget of the church.
Congregational Life Ministry
This team plans special events and outings throughout the year. The events are different each year and have included such things as a Mystery Dinner, Harvest Party, Carling Party, theater trips and more.
FELLOWSHIP
SMALL GROUP
Become a Member
When you decide that you are ready to make a commitment to the church, we will all rejoice to welcome you into the active membership of our church!
To join, you will need to meet with our Session (governing board of elders). They will ask you to introduce yourself to them and say a little about why you want to join our church. Then, through the moderator, they will ask you two questions. First, do you trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Second, Do you promise to be a faithful member of the church? If you answer yes, and have been previously baptized, you will be enrolled as an active member. If you have not been baptized, then Pastor Eugenia will work with you to establish the date and time for your baptism and your membership will be complete then.
We recognize baptism in any Christian church as long as if was done with water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Presbyterians believe that baptism is universal and we do not require a person to be re-baptized in order to join our church.
Inquirer's Classes
If you are considering membership, but want to learn more, you are encouraged to participate in a four week Inquirers' Class. These classes, led by the pastor, are offered at least twice per year and cover the topics: What Do Presbyterians Believe? What is the Meaning of Worship and Why Do we do it the Way we do? Church Government and How Do I Find My Ministry Here? Classes are offered immediately following worship and a light lunch is served.
Why Should I Join?
Almost all of the ministries, activities and pastoral services are available to non-members as well as members. So why should I join? There are a couple of practical and spiritual reasons to take that step. First, a practical reason, only members are allowed to vote in congregational meetings where pastors and officers are elected. It is in congregational meetings that decisions about property and indebtedness are debated and resolved. The general policy making of the church, including the setting of the budget, is done by the Session. That leads to a second practical reason for membership. Only active members are eligible to serve as elders and deacons of the church. The Spiritual reason for membership is a little more subtle. When we make a commitment to a particular church and a particular group of people we experience an amazing spiritual growth spurt. Relationships deepen, opportunities to serve ripen and we learn the lessons of community. Commitment is at the heart of our faith. Our commitment, of course, is to Christ first and foremost. Still God always calls a 'people' to live that commitment out as a body. Membership is a way of saying yes to God's way of growth.
